Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy.
For many years the Sisters of St. Margaret have raised money for education in Haiti and have administered a scholarship program. This year brings a new name for that highly successful program, Avancez.
Avancez advance, progress, forward; proceed; move, raise, march on
Education continues to be the pathway out of poverty for Haitian children and their families. Many of the children who have received scholarships from Avancez have gone on to higher education and to find jobs that pay well and give them financial security.
It breaks our hearts to have to turn away children who cannot attend school without our support. Your donation today will have a lifelong impact on a child in Haiti where education is an investment for the entire family. This is why we continue our program year after year. This is why we need your help.
100 percent of the money raised for Avancez goes to pay for the education of the children in the program. The Sisters in Haiti have frequent contact with the children, and offer encouragement and support to them and their families. These children and families are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend school. All funds donated to The Sisters of St. Margaret thru November 29th will directly benefit Avancez (unless otherwise directed).DONATE NOW
Here are a couple letters from children who have received Avancez scholarships recently:
Port-au-Prince, July 14, 2015
Since my most tender youth, you have supported me generously, contributing to the undertaking and progress of my education which, furthermore, is a quality education in a noted school.
I will continue to do my best to succeed, and to do so with flying colors, as this is the only way I can demonstrate my gratitude. I am very ambitious. I have set goals and I will attain them in such a way as to make you proud of me so that you will not regret your assistance.
You hold a special place in my prayers. May our Lord may reward you with health and security so that you may continue to spread your generous gifts in this world.
You have my sincere thanks.
Your godson, who sends you love – Béathino
Port-au-Prince, August 12, 2015
Words cannot express my thanks for your kindness and especially for your help, which is precious to me.
As a result of your generosity, my daughter completed an excellent school year 2014-2015, and she received very good grades. I cannot thank you enough for your collaboration. I pray that the God of the Universe protect you, grant you health, and make you prosper in every way. I hope that your generous help to my daughter will continue in the new school year 2015-2016.
