Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy.
Each year the sisters select a specific focus for all Giving Tuesday donations. In the past, we have successfully raised money for Avancez, our Haiti scholarship program and for our new Chapel.
In 2017 all money raised on Giving Tuesday and through the end of the year will be focused on our vocations program (unless otherwise directed on the donation page). One of the most important factors for any Religious order is their members. While we have never been an order large in numbers, our reach has been significant. It is our duty to take action to protect the sustainability of the community and ensure our mission and ministry continue for many years.
We must do more to educate the wider community about the Society of St. Margaret and the religious life, as well as reach out to women who are considering a life of service. In the past few months we have had an increasing number of inquiries about our life, as well as significant interest in our vocations program. Your donation will help us extend our reach, on-line and in person, as we visit parishes and dioceses and invite women to the Duxbury Convent to meet us and experience our lives.
We hope you will consider a donation to the Sisters of St. Margaret this giving season. Donate online
