Phase two of the construction began with the structure taking place. It is exciting to see the interior take shape and imagine the possibilities…

In November of 2015 the Sisters of St. Margaret began the process of salvaging material from their Chapel for use in a new Chapel and construction on the new building began. The original 1903 Chapel, while charming, was lacking running water, plumbing, HVAC and was without a foundation. The cost of upgrading the existing building was beyond the Sisters ability, so plans were drawn up for a new Chapel building which would be very similar in character and aesthetics to the existing one, but would contain all the necessary modern conveniences as well as code mandated life and safety systems. After all usable materials were removed from the old Chapel,  the Sisters were willing to allow the Duxbury Fire Department to use the remaining shell for training.  Even as we mourn the loss of our old, rustic Chapel, we were pleased to be able to provide this unique opportunity for the Fire Department  to practice venting the roof, gaining entry and breaching the sidewalls. It was exciting to watch, but also a reminder of the important and physically demanding work that the Fire Deprtment does to keep us safe.  The Sisters were pleased that the old building, which has served us so well over the years, was able to provide a place for practicing life saving techniques. We will update this page with photos and construction updates over the next 9 months, and hope that you will enjoy watching it take shape with us.
