Common Questions About Retreats

Sisters of St. Margaret Sisters of St. Margaret

What are the guest rooms like?

The Guest Houses have both air-conditioning and heating. The rooms are simply furnished, but charming and comfortable. All linen, blankets, and towels are provided.

What do I need to bring on Retreat?

We provide everything you will need except for personal items like toiletries. There are copies of the BCP and a Bible in each room, however, you may wish to bring your own. Guests usually bring a journal and, if you are interested in photography, please feel free to bring a camera as our campus is very scenic. You will also need to bring outdoor gear appropriate to the weather as you will have to move between buildings for meals, worship, and lodging.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes, we do have W-Fi available in the guest houses, but you should think carefully about whether or not a computer will be helpful or a distraction. However, we understand that many people need to be connected even while in retreat.

How much silence should I expect during my visit?

Most of our meals are eaten in silence and we keep the Great Silence from 9pm – 9am every night. We ask that guests participate in this silence as well.

What kind of meals do you serve?

We eat simple, healthy and delicious food, and many who stay with us remark on how good our meals are! We eat a variety of food including meat as well as vegetarian meals, we offer lots of fresh fruit, and we always have a salad bar out for the noon and evening meal. We can easily accommodate special diets with advanced notice.

I am not an Episcopalian, may I still come for a retreat?  May I receive Communion?

We welcome people of every faith, little faith, or no faith. We are called to provide hospitality for all who are seeking spiritual refreshment. Our Worship in unapologetically Christian, but all are welcome to join us. We offer Holy Communion to all who are Baptized in their own denomination.

Can I attend the worship services of the Community?

Yes. All our worship services are open to the public. Guests are welcome to attend any and all services but are not required to attend any.

Can men stay with you?

Yes, men are welcome to stay with us, and we also have rooms that accommodate couples. Please contact us directly for more information.

When should I arrive, when do I need to leave?

We prefer that guests arrive after the noon meal and depart before noon.

Are you handicapped accessible?

Not yet, but we are working on it. There are guest rooms on the first floor of one of the Guest Houses, but the bathrooms are not handicapped accessible. The Convent is completely accessible, with an elevator and accessible bathrooms, but there are no guest rooms in this building. Our Chapel is fully accessible. Future plans for our campus include a renovation of Bertram Retreat Center which would provide accessible rooms, meeting rooms and bathrooms. if you have any questions, please contact us for more information.

Can I use public transportation to get to the Convent?

Yes, at certain times you can reach us via bus or train. Please contact us for more information.
